Canalside Lofts Guide to Columbia Farmer’s Market

As the Summer months begin to dwindle down, we look forward to the cooler temperatures and lower humidity that accompany the Fall season. What better way to embrace what’s left of the summer free time than to explore your local Farmer’s Market with your friends, family or furry friend! We love supporting local farmer’s and collecting local produce while enjoying the atmosphere of our neighborhood.

The Soda City Market (http://sodacitysc.com/) is open every Saturday, year-round, rain or shine, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. With over 150 local vendors each week, we’re certain that you’ll find something unique, locally-produced and hand-crafted to nourish your brain, body and belly. Take in the sounds of the live music as you explore the abundant food truck/vendor options- maybe even snag a free sample, or two! Fresh local produce, meats, seafood, baked goods, oils, plants and flowers, jewelry, art and homemade items/crafts are just a few of the many things that can be found while exploring the Soda City Market. Conveniently, there is also free street parking on Saturdays!

Late Summer/early Fall is the perfect time to find seasonal produce such as apples, blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupes, eggplant, herbs, peaches, peppers, raspberries, squash, tomatoes and watermelons.

There are so many benefits that come along with buying fresh, local produce! Not only does the locally-grown produce taste better, but it is usually more nutritious. The produce is picked at its peak ripeness (often times within 24 hours of your purchase) for that perfect farm-to-table freshness! Remember, when you buy local, you are helping to support the local economy.

The Soda City Market first launched in 2005 with only 6 local vendors present. As the event has grown throughout the years, it has become a melting pot of many different cultures and diversities- a perfect representation of Columbia. They now have a database of over 400 local vendors (about 150 present weekly) and the event brings thousands of visitors to the heart of Columbia every weekend!
