Pet Friendly Amenities at CanalSide Lofts

Whether you’re a cat person or a dog person, I think we can all agree that life is more enjoyable with a furry friend. CanalSide Lofts makes caring for a pet easy and fun! We’re here to provide you with pet friendly amenities, resources and tips to ensure that your pet is living his or her best life.

Your dog will love CanalSide Lofts’ spacious dog park where they can run, play and socialize with other dogs. It is also a great place for you to meet and get to know your neighbors! CanalSide is also located near the Three Rivers Greenway where you and your pet can take your daily walks while experiencing the beauty that Columbia has to offer.

Columbia has plenty of dog friendly restaurants and bars where you can eat, drink and spend time with friends or family while also enjoying the company of your pet. Be sure to check out Yappy Hour at Jake’s Bar and Grill on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm-8:00pm.  They have plenty of outdoor seating on their spacious patio where your dog can run and play for hours with the other pups. On the warmer days, they will sometimes put out a small kiddie pool for the dogs to cool off.

If you’re a pet lover like us, you probably tend to spoil your furry friend with treats, toys and other unique pet accessories.  Pet Supermarket and Pet Supplies Plus are two nearby pet stores where you can find all of the supplies that your four-legged friend could possibly want or need. There are also plenty of dog groomers in the area to keep your bet looking (and smelling) their best — check out Groomingdales of Columbia or K9 Coature!

Most apartments have guidelines when it comes to breed, size and quantity of pets that they allow residents to own. At CanalSide Lofts, residents are allowed a maximum of 2 pets per household. There is a pet fee of $350 for one pet and $550 for two. In addition to the one-time pet fee, there will be a $5/month fee for pet rent. We also have restrictions on what breeds we allow at our property. Check out our pet policy on our Pets Corner page for additional details or contact our leasing staff with any questions regarding these restrictions.

At CanalSide Lofts, we want to make sure you and your pets are happy and well taken care of. We love getting to know our residents and their pets, so don’t hesitate to stop by our leasing office with your pet for a treat! We also host pet-friendly events such as resident puppy play dates or “Pups and Pops” with pupsicles for the dogs and prosecco pops for residents. Be sure to like and follow us on our social media pages to see if your pet has been featured for “Woof Wednesday”.

Helpful Moving Tips from CanalSide Lofts

August 27, 2019

Let’s face it, moving is stressful! At least once in your life, you’ve probably grumbled the words “I’m never moving again!”. However, life is ever-changing and moving is inevitable, so we’re here to provide some essential moving tips that will make the process go much more smoothly and painlessly.

In an effort to be as prepared as possible, keep a box of moving-day essentials handy. This box should contain items such as packing tape, permanent markers, disinfecting wipes, bottled water, paper towels, toilet paper, band aids, pain reliever and some snacks. In all the chaos and disorganization that comes along with moving, having these necessities on hand and close by, should help to alleviate some of your stress and aid in productivity.

Moving Companies

Hiring a moving company to assist with this grueling undertaking will not only speed up the process, but also take much of the physical labor off your hands. Fortunately, the Columbia area has many reputable moving companies who are willing and ready to get the job done. Soda City Movers, Two Men and a Truck, and Gamecock Moving are a few of the most popular moving companies in the Columbia area and can frequently be found assisting residents of Canalside Lofts with their moving needs.

When it comes to packing, cardboard boxes are typically the “go-to” for most individuals. An alternative option is to purchase a few large, plastic storage totes. Often times, they can be more durable than cardboard boxes, and they are great for storage once you’re finished with the move and all your belongings have been unpacked. Opting for the clear version of these totes can be very helpful when looking for a specific item or to easily determine what’s packed inside.

Where to Find Packing Materials

Packing fragile/breakable items is always challenging! For this daunting task, bubble wrap will definitely come in handy! Bubble wrap can be purchased, by the roll, at many different locations near you- Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Staples and Office Depot. Towels, paper towels, newspaper, or plastic grocery bags can also be used in place of bubble wrap to secure your breakable items during the move. For larger items such as mirrors, TVs, art, or large picture frames, blankets can be draped over these items for additional protection. Rolling suitcases can be used for transporting heavier (non-breakable) items such as books!

Packing Clothes Gently

Wardrobe boxes are another very useful tool when it comes to packing. These boxes can be purchased at stores like the ones listed above for purchasing bubble wrap. However, a cheaper alternative, and probably the best moving hack that we’ve come across, is to use garage bags in place of wardrobe boxes. Leave your clothes hanging where they currently are. With an open garbage bag, start at the bottom of the clothes and surround them with the garbage bag. Continue to pull the bag up until you’ve reached the hangers. Once you get the top of the bag around the hangers, tie the drawstring around the “hook” part of the hangers to keep them all in place for easy transporting!

Minimize and Declutter

One upside to moving is that it gives you a chance to go through all of your belongings and purge the items that you no longer want or need. Now you may be asking yourself what to do with said items. Fortunately, there are a number of companies to help with this – Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity are all great places to drop off donations. If you have larger items that you wish to donate, but are unable to transport, some companies allow you to schedule a pick-up with them. If you have other “junk” that cannot be donated, you can try Easy Junk Removal or 1-800-GOT-JUNK.

Good luck with your move! We hope that you enjoy these tips so you can feel prepared for your new residence. Moving is a chance to refresh your belongings and restyle your space. Take advantage of this opportunity and make it the best apartment you’ve ever had!

Canalside Lofts Guide to Columbia Farmer’s Market

August 14, 2019

As the Summer months begin to dwindle down, we look forward to the cooler temperatures and lower humidity that accompany the Fall season. What better way to embrace what’s left of the summer free time than to explore your local Farmer’s Market with your friends, family or furry friend! We love supporting local farmer’s and collecting local produce while enjoying the atmosphere of our neighborhood.

The Soda City Market ( is open every Saturday, year-round, rain or shine, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. With over 150 local vendors each week, we’re certain that you’ll find something unique, locally-produced and hand-crafted to nourish your brain, body and belly. Take in the sounds of the live music as you explore the abundant food truck/vendor options- maybe even snag a free sample, or two! Fresh local produce, meats, seafood, baked goods, oils, plants and flowers, jewelry, art and homemade items/crafts are just a few of the many things that can be found while exploring the Soda City Market. Conveniently, there is also free street parking on Saturdays!

Late Summer/early Fall is the perfect time to find seasonal produce such as apples, blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupes, eggplant, herbs, peaches, peppers, raspberries, squash, tomatoes and watermelons.

There are so many benefits that come along with buying fresh, local produce! Not only does the locally-grown produce taste better, but it is usually more nutritious. The produce is picked at its peak ripeness (often times within 24 hours of your purchase) for that perfect farm-to-table freshness! Remember, when you buy local, you are helping to support the local economy.

The Soda City Market first launched in 2005 with only 6 local vendors present. As the event has grown throughout the years, it has become a melting pot of many different cultures and diversities- a perfect representation of Columbia. They now have a database of over 400 local vendors (about 150 present weekly) and the event brings thousands of visitors to the heart of Columbia every weekend!
